and European stocks opened fairly flat, searching for direction after a volatile week.
Shares in Asia-Pacific
were mostly higher as stocks in Hong Kong led gains regionally.
Oil prices rose amid
supply restraint from major producers and growing demand for fuels as economies
try to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
Gold prices were flat as
the bullion was caught between a dip in the dollar and fears that the U.S.
Federal Reserve would start paring stimulus this year despite weak jobs data.
In corporate news, Asos announced
the departure of chief executive Nick Beighton on Monday with immediate effect,
as it posted a jump in full-year profit but warned that sales growth was set to
slow as it highlighted supply chain challenges and cost pressures.
