UK and European markets closed lower following a roller-coaster week for global stocks, as investors digested a dire U.S. jobs report.

U.S. stocks struggled for direction as investors digested a key report on the labour market’s recovery, which showed a much weaker-than-expected pace of hiring last month.

Oil priced higher.

Gold hit a more than two-week high as the dollar took a breather after U.S. jobs data came in well below expectations.

In corporate news, oil giants BP and Shell gushed higher as oil prices rallied.
IAG was trading up after Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he wants to scrap expensive PCR tests for international travellers returning to England in time for the October half-term holiday.
