Europeanmarkets were lower on Monday, with investors
turning their attention to regional inflation data and to Nvidia earnings due
this week.
The FTSE100 Index
rose on the back of positive earnings from Melrose and a recovery in the major
mining stocks.
US stocks were
mixed as the market looks to rebound from a sharp sell-off at the end of last
week. The Nasdaq Composite
rose 0.84%,boosted by a sharp rise in Tesla.
Gold prices
rose on Monday after last week’s sharp declines, as a rally in the dollar
paused, while market participants awaited comments from Federal Reserve
officials this week for more clues on the U.S. interest rate path.
Oil prices
edged up on Monday after fighting between Russia and Ukraine intensified over
the weekend, although concerns about fuel demand in China and forecasts of a
global oil surplus weighed on markets.

Shares in electric carmaker Tesla surged
following news that president-elect Donald Trump would look to establish a
federal framework for fully self-driving vehicles.
Melrose rose
sharply as the UK aerospace company reported a rise in revenues driven by
aftermarket demand in its engines division, particularly in defence.Revenue
rose 7% in the four months to October 31, with aftermarket up 32% year on year
although original equipment (OE) volume growth remained constrained by
industry-wide supply chain issues.
