European markets were lower on Monday, with investors turning their attention to regional inflation data and to Nvidia earnings due this week.

The FTSE100 Index rose on the back of positive earnings from Melrose and a recovery in the major mining stocks.

US stocks were mixed as the market looks to rebound from a sharp sell-off at the end of last week. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.84%,boosted by a sharp rise in Tesla.

Gold prices rose on Monday after last week’s sharp declines, as a rally in the dollar paused, while market participants awaited comments from Federal Reserve officials this week for more clues on the U.S. interest rate path.

Oil prices edged up on Monday after fighting between Russia and Ukraine intensified over the weekend, although concerns about fuel demand in China and forecasts of a global oil surplus weighed on markets.

In market news:

Shares in electric carmaker Tesla surged following news that president-elect Donald Trump would look to establish a federal framework for fully self-driving vehicles.

Melrose rose sharply as the UK aerospace company reported a rise in revenues driven by aftermarket demand in its engines division, particularly in defence.Revenue rose 7% in the four months to October 31, with aftermarket up 32% year on year although original equipment (OE) volume growth remained constrained by industry-wide supply chain issues.
