UK & European markets opened mixed at the start of the new trading week, and investors will be keeping a close eye on the latest U.S. inflation figures.

Asia-Pacific markets were largely lower as investors assessed China’s stronger-than-expected April inflation data.

Gold prices were lower in early trade.

Oil prices were largely flat, as investors digested comments from US central bank officials indicating higher-for-longer interest rates.

In corporate news, student accommodation provider Unite announced the sale of six properties to PGIM Real Estate for £184m, of which £76m was its share.

The FTSE 100 firm said the sale comprised 2,948 beds across various cities, with an average age of 18 years.

It said the strategic sale would increase its alignment with high and mid-ranked universities, supporting sustainable rental growth.
