UK and European markets closed mixed, rounding out a positive week after a deluge of key policy decisions from major central banks.

The dollar bounced after Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams pushed back against the market’s rate cut expectations.

Oil prices rose after benefiting from a bullish forecast from the International Energy Agency (IEA) on oil demand for next year.

Gold prices held steady, but were on track for a weekly rise as the Federal Reserve shifted to a dovish stance and projected lower interest rates next year.

News that the Department for Transport has canned plans to create a Great British Railways ticketing website and app sent shares in booking platform Trainline to a yearly high on Friday.

In an unexpected release on Thursday, the DfT announced it was pulling the proposals first outlined in May 2021 to create a Great British Railways ticket retailing website and app.
