UK
and European stocks climbed as investors look ahead to the next U.S. inflation reading on
Wednesday.
U.S. stocks had a choppy
start totrading, advancing after earlier declines as investors
weight testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Oil prices climbed,
with investors regaining some risk appetite as as some oil producers continued
to struggle to beef up output.
Gold prices firmedabove
the key $1,800 mark, buoyed by a retreat in the dollar and U.S. Treasury
yields, as investors looked for cues on expected policy tightening from Federal
Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
In corporate news, DechraPharmaceuticalsclimbed
on news that it has agreed terms with Anivive Lifesciences, Inc to acquire the
worldwide rights to verdinexor, a novel treatment of all forms and stages of
canine lymphoma in dogs.
