and European markets openedhigher as global markets shrug off a sharp rise in U.S. inflation, with many
strategists believing it to be transitory.
Shares in Asia-Pacific
were mixed following gains overnight on Wall Street that saw
the S&P 500 sailing to a record closing high.
Oil priced higheron
expectations for a recovery in fuel demand in Europe, China and the United States.
Gold prices hovered near
the key $1,900 per ouncelevel as investors shrugged off data
that showed a rise in U.S. inflation.
In corporate news, residential landlordGrainger said
it has bought an apartment building in the English city of Newcastle for £57m.
The building houses 283 rental apartments and a ground floor commercial unit.
Asset management services provider Sanne
Groupsaid it was in talks with Cinven after the buyout firm
made a new 875p-a-share offer for the firm.
