and European markets are expected to open in mixed territory Thursday, stumbling lower as President Donald
Trump’s tariffs policy upends global trading relationships.
Volatility has been the flavour of the week for markets with Trump’s tariffs on
steel and aluminium imports —and retaliatory measures from the European Union
and Canada — prompting declines across major bourses.
Asia-Pacific markets
traded mixedon Thursday after a soft inflation report in the
U.S. helped two of the three benchmarks on Wall Street reverse course from two
days of losses.
Gold held near $2,940 per
ounce on Thursday, hovering close to record levels, as
escalating global trade tensions continued to fuel safe-haven demand.
Brent crude oil futures
fellbelow $71 per barrel on Thursday after gaining 2% in the
previous session, as traders refocused on escalating global trade tensions.
Investors in Europe will be keeping an eye on earnings from Hugo Boss, Hannover
Re and Deliveroo, with no major data releases due today.
Bulmer’s cider maker C&Csaid
underlying operating profits would be "modestly below" target amid
weaker consumer confidence and the impact of higher wages and employer taxes
introduced in the Budget.
Halma
hailed the "good progress" made during the second half of its
financial year to date, with trading conditions across its end markets
described as "varied".
