UK & European stocks gained at the openfollowing heavy losses at
the end of last week.
Asia-Pacific markets fell,
with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index leading losses in the region, following the
weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs report on Friday.
Oil futures jumped by a
dollar in early tradingas a potential hurricane system
approached the U.S. Gulf Coast, and as markets recovered from a selloff
following weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data on Friday.
Gold prices edged lower,
as investors awaited U.S. inflation print due this week to strengthen their
bets on the size of a likely reduction in Federal Reserve's interest rates.
In UK corporate news, Barratt
Developments, Homes England and Lloyds Bank have formed a joint venture
that will focus on developments of large sites for housing.
Each partner will invest up to £150m in the venture, to be called the MADE
Partnership, focusing on multiple large scale, residential-led developments
from 1,000 to more than 10,000 homes “along with a variety of community
facilities and employment uses”.
Potential development opportunities will include large brownfield developments,
as well as new garden village style communities.
