U.K. and European markets opened mixed as investors focused
on geopolitics and a big budget announcement due in the U.K.
Shares in the Asia-Pacific
traded mostly lower with the Hang Seng Index falling 2.09%
as Chinese technology stocks saw sharp losses.
Oil prices fell for a second
day in early Asian trade as concerns over geopolitical tensions
eased.
Gold prices were flat as
safe-haven demand from latest geopolitical concerns faded.
In corporate news, Royal Mail owner International
Distribution Systems swung to a half-year loss, blaming
weak parcel volumes and strikes at the UK postal carrier.
Pre-tax losses came in at £127m, compared with a profit of £315m a year
earlier.
