U.K.
and European stocks opened in positive territory, with regional markets still seeing a boost
from last week’s U.S. inflation figures.
Hong Kong stocks led gains
in a mixed Asia-Pacific session as Japan’s benchmark index was
dragged lower by tech giant SoftBank Group.
Oil prices rose nearly 1%,
extending gains from the previous session as the top oil importer, China, eased
some of its strict Covid-19 protocols.
Gold prices slightly
retreated as the dollar and U.S. bond yields rose.
In corporate news, AstraZeneca said
that three of its drugs had been recommended for approval in the European
Union.
The pharmaceuticals giant said ‘Imfinzi’ plus chemotherapy had been recommended
for approval as a first immunotherapy regimen for advanced biliary tract
cancer.
